Kindergarten in Howard afternoon tea
He had a lonely eye, leaning on the seat back with an even lonely dinosaur. Asking him if the thing got an electric mouth, the answer was no .. From the boy’s grandmother.
So, to break the ice, I put my finger tip into the toy’s mouth, asking the boy if it can bite. The boy took the bait.
Then, asking him if there is another female dinosaur in his bag, he shook the head. Instead, there is one little Lego truck inside. Confirming I got his interest, I returned to my afternoon tea booth. Pretending ignoring the curious eye sight from him, I kept drinking the tea.
The boy was just wondering what else trick this guy might have.
Then, I whispered to him , from 2 meters away: can you show me the little truck?
As I expected, he came to my desk with the little truck in the hand, putting it on the table, while my wife was smiling and knowing the big show was just coming.
The little truck is with a hand-made front shovel. I asked his permission to put my cell phone into the shovel, and was suspicious if the thing can handle it.
The boy , without any hesitation, lifted the shovel loaded with Nokia with his little fingers easily.
Knowing he was now already having a little proud with his toy, I could not help offering more challenge.
There were two merciless questions for the poor boy.
1:) The truck has a foundation which seems able to make 360 degree turn. So it can shoveling around without moving the wheels. How come the foundation just stuck there?
2) Where is the driver ?
No answer for question (1). From either of us.
Originally I thought the boy got an answer for question(2). Since he just started to poking all of his pockets for 5 mins, and then, with empty hands. Almost on the verge of crying.
Now comes the high point of the kindergarten trick. I smiled to him and said I CAN make a driver for him.
His eyes was wide open, staring and observing how I turned one corner of my name card into a fancy Lego driver.
The fun was not over yet. We can not do everything for the little one. Instead, we have to encourage him to finish the job.
The little boy just knows how to open the driver’s cabin, put the paper driver inside, and reassembled the cabin perfectly.
The grandmother waived goodby to us , smiling, when they were ready to go back to the bus heading to TPE.
One thing was missing: the boy did not even speak anything. No matter how hard I tried 😦
